ROI

Strathfield Golf Club (SFC) situated in Sydney's Inner West offers a premier golfing experience on its beautifully designed course.

The club is committed to sustainability, integrating initiatives like water-saving irrigation systems and renewable energy to reduce its environmental impact.

SGC continues to lead by example, balancing exceptional facilities with a focus on preserving the environment for future generations.

Project Directive

SGC's ambition was to significantly offset the club's energy usage and lower its operational costs while significantly reducing their environmental footprint.

By harnessing renewable energy, the club aimed to strengthen its commitment to sustainability while offering an eco-conscious environment for members and guests.

Due to recent upgrades and renovations, SGC had stringent requirements to preserve the aesthetic integrity of its facilities, ensuring that the new installation would seamlessly blend with the club's elegant atmosphere.

As this project was a cornerstone of SGC's long term sustainability ambition, the club aimed to have a design with scalability in mind, allowing for seamless expansion should their energy requirements increase over time.

Approach

SEE designed and installed a state of the art multi-array solar system, strategically distributed across two of the three spheres that form the distinctive roofline of SGC.

The system, with a total capacity of 100kW, was carefully planned to meet the club's current energy demand while providing flexibility for future expansion.

The design includes provisions to scale up the system should the club's energy needs grow, ensuring the long term sustainability and adaptability as the club evolves

Execution

The installation of solar at SGC was a complex undertaking, presenting several unique challenges that required innovative solutions.

The clubhouse roof, a feat of modern engineering with its multiple curved surfaces demanded precise design and construction to ensure a secure and efficient solar panel layout.

Navigating around HVAC units and other rooftop equipment added to the complexity, requiring careful planning to not negatively impact system performance.

SGC's concrete roof and desire to  reduce panel visibility lead to challenges with anchoring, system placement and installation leading to a specialised solution ensuring structural integrity.

Despite the obstacles, the project successfully delivered a high-performance solar system with minimal disruption.

Sustainable Journey

The future of SEE's partnership with SGC is centred on driving continued energy efficiency and sustainability.

SEE has assisted the club in applying for an energy efficiency grant to replace outdated and inefficient machinery, further reducing energy wastage and operational costs.

This collaboration includes ongoing periodic reporting on solar system performance, offering clear insights into generation metrics and environmental impact.

Additionally, SEE continues to explore SGC's evolving energy requirements providing insight in potential expansion of the existing solar system to ensure the club stays ahead of their sustainability objectives.
